Wells Is Ready To Rebound

GERALDTON Jet Mark Wells will be looking to make amends when he contests a round of the AHG Sprintcar Series at Bunbury Speedway this Saturday night.

After looking the goods early in his first drive of the ex-Donny Schatz J&J at the Perth Motorplex last Saturday night he became a passenger in a pretty hard flip in turn one, putting him out of contention for the rest of the night.

But rather than revert to the team’s tried and trusted J&J at Bunbury this weekend as per the original plan, Wells and crew chief Geoff Murphy have rebuilt the ex-Schatz machine in a bid to ‘shake it down’ before the big shows in Western Australia over the next month.

Not only is the Wells team looking for good results but they are also looking forward to showcasing two sponsors who have offered support this week.

Patience Bulk Haulage from Geraldton are a new sponsor of the team and will have signage on the car from this weekend.

RGR Haulage this week also confirmed their ongoing support for the team.

“We are happy to have these two WA companies back us going into the busiest time of the season with some major races coming up,” Wells said.

Things started well early at the Motorplex show last weekend. He set the seventh fastest time in qualifying with a 15.298 second lap and then in the first heat race bolted from position six to an early lead.
He got his lap times down to 14.477 on the way to a convincing heat win.

“The thing was on a rail then it makes our job a lot easier when they go around the track like that,” Wells said straight after the win.

“Everything is going well at the moment but there is only one race that counts and that is at the end of the night.”

Instead of racing with older tyres in the heat races Wells said they would be putting new rubber on each time.

Unfortunately just after the big flip in the next round of heats the team was forced to throw more than just new rubber on the once immaculate J&J.

“I got a bit sideways and was just hanging on for a ride after that,” Wells said not long after the crash while nursing a bit of a headache.

“I have never had a car do that to me before. “We suspect broke for the car to do what it did.” And for his sake he is hoping it won’t happen again. Catch him in action at Bunbury this Saturday night.
