MARK Wells is going back to what he knows when he contests the 28th Nanovich Sprintcar King of Wings at the Perth Motorplex this Friday and Saturday night. Over the last few shows Wells has been campaigning a 2007 Eagle chassis that was originally raced by World of Outlaw star Donny Schatz. But he has been struggling with the set-up on the car and last week decided to go back to the team’s 2008 J&J which coincidentally, he won the $20,000-to-win King of Wings show in 12 months ago. “We just couldn’t get that thing to go,” Wells said of the car he has been driving recently. “I just wasn’t comfortable with my driving style in it.” He crashed out in his first show in it at the Motorplex and then finished second to Kerry Madsen in Bunbury a week later, before struggling at the World Series Sprintcars grand final back in Perth. Wells said there was nothing wrong with his ‘old’ car but thought the ex-Schatz roller might have been better. The new Maxwill Motor powerplant the team recently purchased is a positive from the whole deal and that has been transplanted in the ’08 J&J. “That new motor is probably a bit better than our other motor so we will be running that one this week.” The new black panels have also been transferred to the more familiar car. “That motor runs well and with the ‘older’ car we shouldn’t be chasing our tail trying to get the set-up right. “Hopefully we can time trial well this weekend and just drive the thing. |
